Platoon Aviation

Platoon Aviation are one of the most successful teams on the 52 SUPER SERIES. After four end of season podiums – third in 2021 and runners up in 2017, 2018 and 2019 –at the end of the 2023 season in Puerto Portals they clinched the season championship title for the first time. It capped a strong year for the German flagged team, winning their third world title after successes in  2017 and 2019.

The team is owned and run by Hamburg businessman Harm Müller-Spreer, a lifetime racing sailor who was previously successful particularly also in the Dragon keelboat. He raced on the original MedCup TP52 Circuit. He took a long break from the class but returned with a top crew and top boats usually from the Vrolijk design office. After winning the 2023 circuit title he seized the option to have a new Botin boat from the same mould and the same builder as Alegre, King Marine.

One of the very top owner-drivers in the world, Müller-Spreer has had a very settled team in recent years.  But during the 2025 they brought in new navigator America’s Cup winner Juan Vila. The afterguard pairing matches Italian Vasco Vascotto with Spanish gold medallist Jordi Calafat. New to the team this year are trimmer Maciel ‘Cicho’ Ciccheti and grinders Oisin McLelland and Grattan Roberts, Italian bowman Matteo Ramian joined the team last year.
