John Huhn and the Katana team will cross the Atlantic this year to join the final event of the 2026 52 Super Series in Valencia. Katana is the former 2018 Platoon. The vastly experienced and successful Morgan Larson will be the tactician.
Team Katana, led by owner John Huhn, has assembled a roster that blends rising young talent with seasoned veterans including tactician Larson, bringing together decades of experience and more than 20 world championships across a wide range of racing fleets.
Huhn brings decades of sailing experience, his return to top-level racing is relatively recent following the 2023 purchase of the former Platoon — the 2023 Rolex TP52 World Championship and 52 SUPER SERIES-winning TP52. The team has won the GL52 class championship in the USA in each of its first two seasons. The boat is well sorted and has been prepared to the highest level of TP52 racing. Many crew members have extensive experience in the 52 SUPER SERIES fleet. Team Katana is excited to return to the international stage and measure itself against the best teams in the world on the world’s leading grand prix monohull circuit.
The team say, “While there will undoubtedly be a learning curve, the combination of proven talent, experience, and equipment gives us confidence that we can be competitive from the outset.”
They are expected to ‘put a toe in the water’ racing the last event of the season in Valencia as a prelude to a fuller participation in 2027.
