Andy Soriano and his international Alegre crew joined the 52 SUPER SERIES way back in 2015 and have long since proven themselves as one of the best resourced and most talented teams on the circuit. Passionate owner-driver Soriano has massive experience of grand-prix yacht racing, tasting success in the maxi class before moving to the TP52.
Consistency over the course of a full season continues to prove a slightly elusive, but Alegre are nearly always in the fight at the front or near the front of the fleet during each regatta.
They had a good 2023 season, once again some ups and downs but finished sixth for the year and always showed potential to win regattas. Just missing the final few percent, Soriano was – once again – the first to commit to building a new generation of boats and so this season has launched a latest Botin design which was built at King Marine in Valencia.
The core team have been together for many years. At the back of the boat the partnership changed in 2022 as Australian gold medallist Will Ryan came on board as strategist to partner Nic Asher. And also in 2022 Italian Francesco Mongelli joined the team as navigator while regular trimmers include Noel Drennan on main Andy Hemmings and Jon Gunderson on downwind and upwind trim. New for this season is Spain’s 2020 Olympian and past world champion Sylvia Mas, ensuring the high complement of 470 alumni across Olympic generations 1992 to 2020 is maintained! They are podium contenders for 2024.
