Solid start for Quantum on Day 3

Quantum Racing won Race 4 of the Royal Cup Marina Ibiza but a last gasp improvement by Tony Langley’s Gladiator from fourth to third on the final run, keeps the British flagged 52 ahead on American Independence Day by one single point.

Quantum Racing made a solid start near the left end of the start line but confidently stuck with that side of the course which yielded them extra wind pressure and a small lift which allowed the American crew to enjoy a comfortable lead at the first turn.

While Ran Racing and Azzurra scrapped over second and third in the light 6-8kts breeze, Gladiator showed their characteristic final push as they managed to steal third from Ran as they gybed to the committee boat end of the finish line, only just making it across the line ahead of Ran. Quantum Racing close the points gap to leaders Gladiator to only one, but they are now three up on Azzurra.
