Quantum Racing retain Copa del Rey title

Quantum Racing executed a perfect final race to lead at every mark to clinch the 34th Copa del Rey MAPFRE title for the 52 SUPER SERIES.

Azzurra, leaders this morning, picked the wrong side of a shifty, difficult first beat, to finish fifth across the line and so take second step on the podium. Platoon, who were tied for second, crossed 10th but get third overall.
A delay until the breeze settled ended with one false start, abandoned because of a 30 degree wind shift.
But with the wind well right of previous days, 235 deg at 6 to 7kts, Quantum Racing, Sled, Paprec chose the right up the beat and were rewarded with the top placings at the first turn. Paprec got up to second but were finally passed by Spookie who took second behind Quantum Racing.

So Doug and Dalton DeVos Quantum Racing retain the title won last year on the same waters when Ed Baird steered with Terry Hutchinson on tactics.
