Day 1, Race 2 Recap

Race 2 of the Copa del Rey Mapfre was won by Quantum Racing which ensures the American flagged team whcih won this regatta last year end their day with a 2,1 to lead the Barclays 52 SUPER SERIES class at the prestigious Mediterranean regatta. Although Tony Langley’s Gladiator made the best start in the 10 to 12kts sea breeze, they could not quite match Quantum Raciong for upwind speed in the conditions and it was the team skippered by America’s Cup winnner Ed Baird which lead at the first top mark ahead of Gladiator. Crossing the finishg line second partially compensated for a frustrating opening race for Tony Langley’s team which trawled their spinnaker at the leeward gate and retired.

After winning the first race the second proved disappointing for Ran Racing which could only make seventh, Phoenix meantime recovered to a third place finish after having to restart for being over the start line on the gun.
