Coastal Course, A Rocky Route But All on the Start

It’s coastal race day for the 52 SUPER SERIES Scarlino Cup and the conditions look good. The course is due to be around 28 miles long and will give the teams a range of challenges across the Golfo di Follonica. There are a number of small rocky islands such as Sparviero off Punta Ala in the SE and Cerboli and Palmaroli in the NW of the bay, just to the NE tip of Elba island.

“The course will be a beautiful one, very close to the shore at times and there will be a beat to the beach, a downwind close to the beach too and then rounding the Sparviero mark which is full of rocks.”

The weather should be more of the same, seabreeze around 9-12kts. All the pressure is on the start and probably the impetus to get left to the beach for the beneficial shift.

Provezza are up to second after their double win day. They have been good on the coastal races in the past and will feel confident in the abilities of navigator Nacho Postigo who has raced many times on the Bay.
