Gladiator is a well-known team owned and backed by successful English businessman Tony Langley.
They have learned a great deal, improved progressively since their first foray into the TP52 regattas in the Med in 2009 and are one of the most ardent fans and supporters of the 52 SUPER SERIES.
2017 proved a great year for the Gladiator team, as British owner-driver Tony Langley sought to make all round improvements, and, by and large, they proved they had achieved that by the end of the season with a very popular second place in Mahón. They joined a three-boat Quantum Racing stable, and Ed Baird joined the team as tactician bringing with him all his experience of winning with Quantum. Swapping ships when the new Interlodge became available proved a deft, smart choice even if the transition did not go as smoothly as planned. That notorious Miami T-bone starter required the shore team and the sailors to dig deep, but the rewards came incrementally. Never short of a TP52 or two, Langley also sailed his others in the USA and England and must rank as the hardest working owner-driver in show business!
Following the announcement from Emirates Team New Zealand that their defence of the 36th America’s Cup in Auckland will take place in monohull boats, the 52 SUPER SERIES will open Land Rover BAR’s challenge for the 36th America’s Cup. Sir Ben Ainslie will lead the team, with Tony Langley at the helm, a role he has maintained since 2012.
