Niklas Zennstrom’s Ran Racing won the first race of the 33rd Copa del Rey MAPFRE as the Bay of Palma delivered near perfect sea breeze conditions.

Quantum Racing gained the preferred left side of the course early on and lead around the top WW1 mark ahead of Ran Racing and Azzurra but on the second beat Ran were able to extend off the left hand gate mark looking upwind to pass Quantum Racing. By the finish Ran Racing were comfortably clear to win ahead Of Quantum Racing and Azzurra. Paprec took fourth. The breeze built from 11kts to 13 at times on the most easterly race area closest to Cabo Blanco
