A gentle start in Sardinia

Light winds have offered an early postponement for the 52 SUPER SERIES fleet at the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda. The plan is to get a couple of windward-leeward races in today but so far the wind if following the forecast and proving slow to build.

When it comes in, at 5-8kts predicted, it will be just a gentle introduction to the second regatta of the season.
Azzurra have proven they are on form. Winners of both of the final races in Valencia, they would have won yesterday’s practice race other than they did not cross the finish line. But credit also to Platoon which showed the potential to win as well and have good light to moderate airs speed.
To be clear Azzurra won here in 2013, the year after they won the inaugural 52 SUPER SERIES (results in the history section of this web site have Quantum Racing and Azzurra’s results transposed, in fact Azzurra won the Week of the Straits here, not Quantum).

Meantime Doug DeVos goes into his first day of racing for points on the helm of his Quantum Racing. Championship winning skipper Ed Baird is supporting the team in the role of coach this week, but – we understand – will be back on the helm of Quantum Racing for next month’s TP52 World Championships in Mallorca.
